Alternative Day Program - Malden

Alternative Day

Specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals who have chosen not to work full-time due to the challenges of aging, a physical disability or the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. This balanced program offers daily opportunities for work, recreation and community activities.

Triangle designed this program to serve an expanding segment of individuals with disabilities who still enjoy work, but enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day. Because of its multiple emphases,the Alternative Day Program is located in an area that includes fully accessible workspace as well as a quiet, relaxed space for social activities. The goals of the program are to:

• Help each individual maintain their autonomy and maximize their abilities
• Promote community integration through social and recreational activities
• Encourage personal health and wellness through regular fitness activities
• Create a positive, supportive environment in which individuals can maintain or develop their personal skills and build self-esteem;

Individuals in the program receive small group supervision (staff to participant ratio is 1:9) and each individual’s behavior, interpersonal interactions and skill levels are consistently observed and recorded. The staff is also able to support individuals as they transition into retirement and choose to participate in either Triangle’s Adult Day Program or a similar community-based program. Additional services include:

• Regular community outings to places like the Museum of Science and events like the Topsfield Fair
• Case management services
• Behavioral and social service supports
• Referrals for one-on-one counseling
